Here’s Some of the Poultry and Swine Breeds We Want to Acquire and Propagate
The Buckeye is a highly endangered breed of chicken that is listed as "Critical" on the ALBC Conservation Priority List. It is a dual-purpose breed, meaning it can be used for both meat and egg production. Buckeyes were developed in Ohio through a series of crosses and have several interesting characteristics including an ability to hunt field mice that rivals the best barn cats.
Buckeyes are a friendly and calm breed. They lay medium brown eggs, and have little fear of humans. They are an excellent choice for free ranging.

The Guinea Hog was once the most common swine breed in the Southeastern United States. It's small size, docile nature, and ability to forage for its own food made it an attractive and easy to manage animal for the small southern farm.
Today, the Guinea Hog is listed as "Critical" on the ALBC Conservation Priority List. with fewer than 200 known animals in existence. Guinea Hogs can be raised on open pasture. They are known to eat not only acorns, grass, and other plant material, but they also will hunt and eat snakes and rodents creating a safe zone around the homestead.
